🚫 What's Not Worth It Right Now

Overpriced periods, overcrowded spots, seasonal mismatches. Save these for another time.

💸 Córdoba: Feria week (May 23–30)

Unless you're attending the feria intentionally. Hotels at 3× price. Streets packed. Restaurants overwhelmed. Visit before May 22 or after May 31 for the same city at half the cost and one-third the crowd.

🏖 Ibiza: club-focused trip

Opening parties start late May/early June. Major clubs not yet in full swing. If you want the club scene, wait until mid-June. If you want peaceful Ibiza with empty beaches and hiking — now is perfect.

🏔 Sierra Nevada: ski season

Season ended late April. Slopes closed. No summer activities launched yet — the resort is in shoulder transition. Wait until late June for hiking and mountain biking.

🏨 Barcelona: Diagonal Mar / Poblenou hotels (May 28–31)

Primavera Sound takes over Parc del Fòrum. Hotels in the zone are expensive and loud. If you're not festival-going, book in Eixample, Gràcia, or El Born instead.

🌊 Costa del Sol: beach-resort expectations

Sea still cool (17–18°C). Some beach facilities not fully open yet. Fine for sunbathing and walking — but if you want guaranteed hot, lazy beach days, wait until late June.

✅ Northern Spain: second-guessing

People often skip the north in May, worried about rain. Mistake. It's green, uncrowded, the food scene is world-class, and rain is scattered showers — not washouts. Best value in Spain right now.

Honest assessment: We don't tell you everywhere is perfect. Some things genuinely aren't worth the money or time right now. This section is where we say so. Checked 14 May 2026.

🔭 Looking Ahead — Next 2–4 Weeks

Late May → early June 2026. What's coming.

📅 Week of 18–24 May

  • Feria de Córdoba begins 23 May. If you're going: have your bookings locked by now. If you're not: avoid Córdoba city center starting Friday 22nd.
  • Southern temps cross 30°C. Seville and Córdoba forecast to hit 31–32°C. Start planning siesta-hour indoor activities.
  • Balearic sea warms past 20°C. Beach season begins in earnest for Mallorca and Menorca. Water still refreshing but pleasant.
  • Calima clears. Canary Islands return to clear skies by 17 May.

📅 Week of 25–31 May

  • Primavera Sound Barcelona (28–31 May). Parc del Fòrum area busy. Book Barcelona accommodation away from Poblenou/Diagonal Mar if you're not attending.
  • Feria de Córdoba continues through 30 May. City returns to normal 31 May.
  • Ibiza opening parties begin. First major club openings. Island shifts from quiet to lively over ~10 days.
  • San Juan preparations. Coastal towns begin building bonfire structures for the night of 23 June. No disruption yet.

📅 Early June (1–7 June)

  • Spain in June 2026 publishes 1 June. Full monthly deep-dive covering Mediterranean beaches, San Juan festival, Sónar Barcelona, and summer booking strategy.
  • Sea temperatures hit 20–22°C. Mediterranean swimming fully comfortable. Costa Brava coves at their pre-summer best.
  • Northern Spain enters its prime. Long daylight (sunset ~21:45), green landscapes, fewer tourists than the Med coast. Best window for Basque Country and Galicia.
  • Summer flight schedules ramp up. More direct routes from UK, Germany, and Nordics. Check for new budget carrier options.

📅 Mid-June (8–14 June)

  • Sónar Festival Barcelona (11–13 June). Electronic music and digital culture. Tickets still available but rising. Fira Montjuïc area affected.
  • Peak summer pricing begins. Hotel rates start climbing ~15 June across Mediterranean coast. Book June stays before 10 June if possible.
  • Alhambra: book June now. Nasrid Palaces slots for June selling fast. Don't wait.
  • Mountain hiking opens. Sierra Nevada and Picos de Europa high routes become accessible as snow clears. Early season = fewer hikers.
